Nothing beats the Christmas treats you have made with you own
hand, adding a piece of your heart. Therefore I decided to ask some
children from Muhu to be my assistants and prepare delicious
Christmas presents for six well-known Estonians. The children were
allowed to decide who those worthy enough to receive the treats
were.
500 g of dark chocolate
various dried fruits (mangos, apricots, papayas, pears)
200 g hazelnuts
gingerbread
"ready to use" sugar glaze in different colours
20 g of dried cherries
pearl sugar
dried petals of marigold
First roast the hazelnuts for 15 minutes in oven at 200o
C and remove the shells. Melt the chocolate on a water bath, being
careful not to drop any water in the chocolate, as water and
chocolate won't make the best of friends! Should the dried fruits
be too large for a single bite, cut them into ½ cm wedges. After
you have prepared the fruits and the chocolate has melted, you may
start dipping the fruits in chocolate. Place the chocolate-covered
fruits on a sheet of baking paper to dry. You can decorate the
fruits by sprinkling dried marigold petals and pearl sugar on them.
Pour roasted hazelnuts into dark chocolate. Pick the nuts out of
the chocolate in 3s or 4s and place them on a sheet of baking paper
to form little candies. Decorate the nut candy with dried cherries.
Now you can decorate the gingerbread, baked earlier, with sugar
glaze of different colours.
Bon appétit!
